Dear Pastors

Ordering Your Private World

My blog last week – “RZIM, Why I’m Angry” generated a bit of feedback and conversation. Thanks to those who sent me a note. There’s no doubt that what has happened has come as a huge shock and massive disappointment to so many of us. And I get it. What wasn’t there to like about Ravi Zacharias? Very little. He was a charismatic personality, incredibly smart, brilliant apologist and unusually kind to his opponents. But as I said last week all was not good on the inside.

It would have to be more than coincidence that Don and I are speaking on ‘inner life’ issues at ‘Revitalise’ in four weeks’ time. Gordon MacDonald’s book, Ordering Your Private World’ was one of only five or so books that were truly life changing in my early ministry years in the 80’s. He introduced the concept of living as a Called Person and set that off against living as a Driven Person. I instantly knew what I wanted to be and what I wanted to become. In my talk I want to summarise these ideas and share with you the characteristics of a Called Person and how a called pastor-leader might live in 2021.

Don’s talk on ‘Confronting Your Insecurities’ will be worth the 25 bucks alone. Let’s face it we all have a few of these pesky things. It is a stunning talk and I can confidently say will both bless you and help you.

I hope to see you there,
Alan
