Christian Parties and NZ’s Demographics

Good Morning and Welcome to this week’s Gospel and Culture update, by Alan Vink

Four Political Party’s With A Christian Values Base.
Here they are (in alphabetical order):
NZ Public Party (Yet to be Registered)
One Party (Yet to be Registered)
And the NZ Electoral Commission
My POV. Under a MMP Electoral System and based on the principles of Democracy I support the existence of Minor Parties. We all should. I am sure all the people involved in each of these Parties are sincere and very well intentioned. I wish them luck.
However, given the history of Christian Parties in NZ, I doubt that (as at writing) any of them will get even close to the 5% threshold required to get into Government in this year’s Election. I doubt that those standing as Constituent Members have much of a chance either. Further, many Christians have become disillusioned with Christian Parties and won’t vote for any of them.
The big question on everybody’s mind is, ‘what could they achieve if they combined and became one Christian based Party’? To be honest It is impossible to say until we know who is leading the Party and what that Party would stand for. And besides it would need quite a miracle for that to happen anyway.
New Zealand As A Village of 100 People. This Infographic is brilliant. It is based on the 2013 Census results. The portraits are simply magnificent. Though this information is 7 years old the overall ‘picture’ is pretty close to how NZ’s demographics look today. The 2018 Census Results can be found here. The Infographics are not yet available.
My POV. From my observations most of our churches do not reflect this mix. Overall we have a greying, upper middle class and of a white constituency. Or am I wrong?
