Dr Francis Collins, M.D., Ph.D
Can I encourage you to carve out 38 minutes and do some PD by listening to this interview with Dr. Francis Collins speaking on Leading in the Fight Against COVID, Reconciling Faith With Science & Why He's Hopeful For Our Future. Interviewed by Nicky Gumbel at the recent Leadership Conference 2021. It is not only stunning but it encouraged my faith no end.
You will hear him share how as an atheist he came to faith as a 3rd year medical student, heading up the Human Genome Project overseeing 2400 scientists around the world, and working very closely with Dr Anthony Fauci over the last 18months combatting Covid-19 in the USA.
Bio-Francis Collins is a physician-scientist. Under his direction, the Human Genome Project produced the first finished sequence of the human DNA instruction book. His contributions to science, medicine, and society have been recognized by the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal of Science.
A former atheist, Collins became a Christian during his medical training and wrote about that in a best-selling book, The Language of God. Subsequently, he founded the BioLogos Foundation, to provide a meeting place for individuals interested in serious and civil discourse on the potential harmony between science and the Christian faith.
He was nominated as the Director of the NIH by President Barack Obama in 2009, President Donald Trump in 2017, and President Joe Biden in 2021 making Dr Collins the only Presidentially appointed National Institutes of Health Director to serve more than one administration.
Alan Vink is currently the Executive Director for LeadershipWorx. Prior to this role he has been the Executive Director of Willow Creek Association NZ (WillowNZ), a Baptist pastor (23 years), Bible College teacher, and church consultant.
