Do a Survey!
Dear Pastors
I think short survey’s and quick fire questionnaires (as distinct from Academic Research or a Census) are an excellent tool to get honest feedback and therefore a better assessment of whatever it is that you are measuring.
Survey research is used to assess thoughts, opinions, and feelings. It is an efficient way to get feedback. Many service providers regularly ask their customers to answer a few questions about the experience they had whether it was a flight down country, hiring a car, electricity provider, using a library, museum, swimming pool……whatever.
I’m not sure why we don’t use them more in church life? Conducting an anonymous survey say 1-2 times a year can be hugely helpful to ‘give us a handle’ about the quality of what we are providing and thereby inform our decision making going forward.
Right now I think conducting a survey that asks your people a few pertinent questions about your church might be helpful as you think and plan about your future post COVID19.
Here is a sample survey. Maybe you would like to use this as a stimulus for adapting something similar for your church?
Horizon Church Survey.
This survey will help us to better understand your thoughts and feelings about our church.
It is anonymous unless you choose to add your name.
Your name (optional):
- Are you U25, 26-45, 46-65, O65?
- How long have you been attending Horizon?
- How often do you attend a month?
- What are three top reasons why you attend Horizon? OR What do you like most about Horizon?
- Who is your most preferred Preacher/Teacher either here at Horizon OR elsewhere?
- Where can we improve?
- How often do you go online to watch a church service, watch/listen to a talk by a Christian speaker or look for a resource that is not ‘produced’ by Horizon?
- Do you have any thoughts about how we should go forward after COVID19?
- Is there anything else you would like to say to the leadership team at Horizon?
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions.
[END]
So, what’s stopping you pastor? Why wouldn’t you do a survey?
Blessings
Alan
