The PM’s To-Do List and Pressing Issues

Many commentators have offered a to-do list for our PM and the Labour Government this last week and that is entirely understandable. As a nation we face a myriad of big issues and concerns.

Steven Joyce was a former senior National MP, Mr Fix it and campaign strategist. He wrote a piece called, The Top Six Priorities for the PM’s to-do list.

Dr Max Rashbrooke is a Senior Associate at the Institute of Government and Policy Studies, Victoria University and offered this list in a piece entitled, ‘The Seven Key Challenges Facing Jacinda Ardern’.

Also, Bob McCoskrie National Director of Family First wrote this email last week entitled we are ready for the next three years. “The new Government has been formed, and we are now preparing for the next three years. Since 2006, Family First NZ has become a household name, advocating for families, and speaking common sense and values on a broad range of family issues in New Zealand. We will continue to promote strong families, marriage, and the value of life, based on principles that have benefited New Zealand for generations”.

Finally and for good measure, here are the various Policy Statements of the NZ Labour Party if you haven’t already seen them.

POV. As Christians we care about the ‘welfare of the city/town/suburb/neighbourhood/street’. A key player if not the biggest player who determines the welfare of the city is the Government of the day particularly as far as new policy is concerned. So on that basis we would do well to stay informed and knowledgeable as to what the Government is up to. Staying ‘up to speed’ means we can engage in thoughtful dialogue, pray about specific issues and when time permits do some additional reading about a key issue confronting us as a nation. If we all commit a little bit of extra time to do this going forward we may be surprised at not only the lift in the level of engagement from Christians but also in the quality of the conversation and debate.
