Jesus the Republican - Tony Campolo at his best
You just have to take a look at this.
It's a superb 4 min video interview with Stephen Colbert probably about 15 years ago where Campolo laments how the Republicans have made Jesus into one of their own and powerfully states that 'Jesus transends party politics'.
Guns....so many Guns
With another terrible school shooting in America the question of gun control is front page. But this is not rocket science, is it? When ordinary everyday people have easy access to military style semi-automatic assault rifles then the entire population is at greater risk of harm from fatal shootings. It seems that the gun lobby in Washington DC is way more powerful than common sense and way more powerful than the research.
"In 2017 a New York Times piece dove into the data, coming up with one answer - it's not mental health, it's not video games, it's not the overall level of violent crime - it's all the guns. Americans make up 4% of the world's population but own 42% of the guns, and studies have found that has a clear connection to the odds of it experiencing a mass shooting".
More than a million eligible New Zealanders not boosted
The NZ Herald’s Jamie Morton has taken a look at why that is.
"95% of New Zealanders have had two doses of the Covid vaccine yet only 72% of eligible people have had their booster shot. University of Auckland vaccinologist Helen Petousis-Harris makes an interesting point about semantics, saying having two courses should have been termed double dosed, rather than "fully vaccinated". She thinks people don’t know that boosting makes a difference with the omicron variant. While it might be that half the country has been infected with this variant of Covid, studies have demonstrated that boosting remains highly effective at keeping people out of hospital or from dying with the virus".
